‘Be Our Guest’
Mini Mumbler love singing along to her Disney faves, and a trip to the theatre so when we were invited to Sing-a-longs Beauty and the Beast we could hardly refuse!
It was such a lovely treat to be able to spend some quality 1 on 1 time with Mini Mumbler since she became a big sister. She couldn’t wait to don her Belle dress, small meltdown as we searched the house for her Belle crown but she compromised and wore Cinderella’s (only to later find the Belle crown in her bedroom exactly where I said it was!).
We arrived at The Civic, in plenty of time to have a look around and get some drinks/snacks. The venue is clean, fresh and modern. Toilets and baby change are up (a lot of) stairs but there is a lift, and they are lovely and clean too.
With a bit of time to kill I gritted my teeth as I ordered us a drink each, pulling out a £20 note to pay (we all know what these places can be like!) I was taken aback when the total came to £1.80 so I put my £20 back in my purse and paid with change, I even had enough to get us a little snack each for during the interval.
The show itself was brilliant, Rose who introduced the movie and explained ‘our parts’, I usually groan at audience participation but it was a real laugh for the adults and the children. We even got covered in snow during the winter scenes. I would definitely book to see another Sing-a-long-a show.
The Civic has lots of family shows planned for this year, check our events calendar for more details. The next two shows are…

The Selfish Giant
18 February | Sun
2:30pm | Sun
£8 | £6 conc | £5 child
The Selfish Giant by Wrongsemble is a brand new adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s classic tale brought to life for ages 3-7 and their families, reimagined for the stage with a recipe of original live music, colour, magic, puppets and adventure.
Once upon a time there was the most beautiful garden. A garden where blossom hung from every tree, and the sound of birdsong echoed in every corner. A garden filled with the laughter of children playing, where the gates were always open….
But those days are long since gone.
Now there is a high wall around it, built by a monstrous selfish giant, which keeps out all the children, and a sign promises that ‘Trespassers will be prosecuted’. Now people can barely even remember the garden, or the happiness that it once brought to all who played there…until a brave child dares to rediscover what lies within!
Join us as we climb through the cracks in The Selfish Giant’s wall, and find the beauty that lies within the garden, and us all.
For the purposes of this review, we received complimentary tickets to the show. We would never recommend a product, service or experience unless we honestly had a great time (there are some that don’t get published for that reason!)
