The Rugby League World Cup is going to be held in the UK later this year (rolled over to 2022 from 2021 due to Covid-19).
Doncaster will host three Men’s games at the Eco-Power Stadium (Formerly Keepmoat Stadium) and with Doncaster firmly on the Global stage, they’re going all out to make visitors from far and wide welcome and embracing every minute of this fantastic opportunity to inspire young people to embrace the power of sport.
We spoke to former professional rugby league player, Chief Executive of Doncaster Rugby League and former Vice President of of the Rugby Football Leaue, Carl Hall who helped Doncaster’s bid to be a host town.
“Our legacy team have been working with lots of our local schools, introducing them to rugby league and it’s been great to see children learning about the different countries taking part in the Rugby League World Cup. 16 of our primary schools have been allocated one of the countries taking part and they have enjoyed training sessions, even learning the Samoan dance with former Samoan Professional rugby player Freddie Tuilagi!
If you’ve not watched a live match before, then now is the time to book your ticket and a come over to Doncaster to watch a RLWC match. It’s a whole lot cheaper than you think. With tickets for children from just £2.21, a family of four can come to a match in Doncaster for under £25!
Lots of the children involved in our legacy activities will be taking part during the event as flag bearers…the Rugby League World Cup really is a family friendly event and we’d love for you to join us in Doncaster for some world class sport.”
The Eco-Power Stadium is very easy to get to, just off the M18 motorway Junction 3, with easy links to Doncaster’s train station too.
