I honestly didn’t know what to expect. In my head it was a football class, there would be some drills and skills and maybe they’d have a game of 5 a side with some goal scoring … oh how wrong was I!!
Coach Colin introduced himself and mascot monkey, Milton, and quickly got the kids involved so they forgot Mummy and Daddy were watching. The warm up was based on zoo animals, stretching legs like tall giraffes, big stomping steps like elephants and swinging arms like monkeys!
An assault course was set up with cones before we arrived and the children used their ‘big fish, little fish’ dribbling skills (desperately trying not to use their hands!) to get round the course whilst sneakily practising some core skills without them even knowing! Mini Mumbler found a couple of the skills hard but Coach Colin was there to encourage him and to reward his achievements!
Coach Colin was amazing at keeping the kids attention as the skills and activities were short enough so they didn’t get bored but long enough so they had time to practise! The class was relevant to the kids’ age and Coach Colin used animals and characters from favourite movies to explain and carry out the activities.
That was brilliant! We’ll come back next week too! [Mini Mumbler, Sept 2019]
We’re looking forward to joining the football session on a weekly basis and getting our Team Orange football kit!!
