23 March – 1 April
Help Ilbert the Dragon find all his eggs on a special trail at Pontefract Castle. Join in with different dragon activities throughout the week, including craft activities, storytelling and games. Dress up and spread your wings with Ilbert on the Great Big Dragon Parade – come in your own dragon outfit or make a dragon mask onsite!
The Pontefract Castle team will also be running SEND family sessions during the week for those families who prefer a more relaxed atmosphere with restricted numbers.

As part of their Pit to the Pitch project, Featherstone Rovers Foundation has been working with children and young people through creative and heritage workshops to celebrate the history and traditions of Featherstone Rovers RLFC and its association with coal mining heritage in Featherstone.
Join the Foundation at the Featherstone Rovers VS Wakefield Trinity game where they will be celebrating the project including a half-time performance by Join the Momentum Dance Programme and local schoolchildren.

The annual World Coal Carrying Championships hosted in Gawthorpe is back to celebrate its 61st year. Children aged 5-14 and Youth 15-17 are encouraged to take part in the Coal Race event by entering in a ‘Fun Run’ – racing 100 yards from the Darby & Joan to the Village Green!

Immerse your young explorers in the wonders of nature with RSPB’s Tree and Leaf ID workshop at Fairburn Ings.
In store is a day of discovery as they unravel the secrets of different trees and their leaves. From oak to maple, become a tree expert and embrace the beauty of the great outdoors through fun guided activities that are bucket loads of fun.
This activity is aimed at children 5 – 12 years old.

Each week there are dedicated relaxed openings across Wakefield Council’s Museum sites.
This means that any loud noises will be turned down or switched off. It will not be busy. You can be yourself. They have fidget and sensory objects to help you relax and explore. There is an extra quiet space if you need it plus activity sheets and crafts to try.

Legends of the big screen are set to assemble at Trinity Walk for Wakefield’s biggest cosplay experience – Star Walk! Enjoy two free days of movie stars, cars and props, plus free face painting and giveaways.
Giant Barbie and Star Wars toy boxes are just two of the many photo opportunities available to create lasting memories.
