The new nature-based fairy trail, funded by Wakefield Council Culture Grants, is nestled in local woodland at Earnshaws Fencing Centre, Midgley. This is a great FREE activity for families to discover nature in our local environment. Each fairy on the trail represents a different species which lives in the woodland and they have many top tips to share with you about looking after wildlife and the environment.
We got to have a peek of it this week and absolutely loved it!! (if you see a sulky two year old in the photos, she was having a hard day 🤦♀️)
If you haven’t been to Earnshaws before, there is a woodland walk just up from the Little Acorns cafe & the Summerhouses and this is the entrance to the new fairy trail! You’ll be able to pick up a trail sheet at the start which the kids can complete as they discover the names of the fairies! However, before you start there are two poems that really make you stop & think and take in the beauty of the local area!
The trail is numbered and there is a different nature-themed fairy, fact & tip at each number. These fairies are beautiful designed & painted and have been intertwined with their animal or species that they represent. Our favourites … the badger & sparrow hawk fairies and I definitely learnt some new nature facts too!! At the end of the trail there is a post box for you to send your promise to nature. The trail is just wonderful and is perfect for you & your children to learn about the local woodland!!
And it’s not just the new fairies on the trail. There are still the Earnshaw woodland trail fairy houses, fort and play trail with the play houses & sand pit down at the entrance so you can really make a great visit out of it and let the kids have a good explore and run around!
We are huge fans of the existing nature trail and woodland adventure area at Earnshaws so this is a brilliant addition!!
