Explore the power of mighty machines this February Half Term with hands-on activities, explosive experiments and so much more.

 

The Rock ‘n’ Coal Show

Discover how coal was formed and how we know where to find it! Meet famous people from history such as the Father of Geology William Smith and Marie Curie who was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize for her scientific discoveries.

Get creative with crafts celebrating the mighty machinery of mining.

Adult Art Workshop

Learn one of the earliest forms of printing to create vibrant patterns on fabric, with artist Alison Taylor. Experiment with shape, contrast and texture to make a bespoke masterpiece.

Love LEGO? Keen on coding? Build your own Mighty Machines and learn how to make them move in this creative programming workshop. No experience required.

Heritage Walk

Enjoy a country walk? Fascinated by local heritage? Combine the two by joining our friendly guide in this 2-hour circular walk around the Museum. Discover shadows of the industry hidden in the landscape that may surprise you!

Caphouse Creators (7-12 yrs)

Wed 14 & Thu 15 February
11am-12pm
£5 per child, pre-bookable

Experiment with negative and positive images as you skillfully wire and solder a circuit board, bringing illumination to your bespoke illustration.

STEAM Club (11-16 yrs)

Fri 16 February – 11am-12:30pm
Sun 18 February – 11am-12:30pm & 2pm-3:30pm
£5 per child, pre-bookable

Experiment with different liquids and solids to learn about density, use this knowledge to make your own lava lamp.
