Wow! Need a way to tire your little and not so little ones out? Halloween at Stockeld park is definitely a solution. We arrived soon after opening time and straight away we began chasing our mini Mumblers as they excitedly explored what can be described as a enormous, woodland, adventure play area. With spooky but fun decor all around, we decided to head straight to the maze.
The Stockeld maze is a family favourite, we lost ourselves (and the kids) too many times to count, but out littlest loved pointing the right (or wrong) path to try escape the maze.
We was ready for some indoor fun in the Play Hive. Phenomenal is the only word to describe this enormous, indoor, adventure playground. Our visit to the Play Hive lasted about 1 hour, we fed gorillas, flew planes, changed the weather, got eaten by a whale. Our 2 year old Mini Mumbler was happy to explore some of the smaller apparatus in the sunny central play space, with our bigger kids running off and climbing sky high and finding every slide. And there was a lot.
We continued our day out around the Stockeld Enchanted Forest. Meeting a number of spooky and interactive characters along the way telling us stories of taming dragons, brewing potions and casting spells. Stopping at each play area to climb, slide, swing, jump, dig, balance, run and thoroughly tire out all those little legs. Visiting the fairy village was super special too.
Our favourite forest play area was the Spiders Lair, with ladders, rope bridges, climbing nets, fireman poles, tunnels and slides. And then a fun filled stop at Farmer Foster’s Barnyard Play Area with the super fast slides being a firm favourite.
Our mini Mumblers were getting tired so it was time for PUMPKIN PICKING. Each child receives a pumpkin as part of their entry fee and there was plenty to choose from. PLUS the perfect place for a mini Halloween photo session. All before sleepily heading back to the carpark and a danger nap on the journey home.
Halloween at Stockeld Park is perfect for little walkers up to about age 11, with all the playgrounds offering something for all age abilities. Don’t forget you must have pre-booked tickets and they do not accept cash in the park.
The food outlets were very busy, so taking a packed lunch might be the best option to keep your little ones bellys full. And a flask of tea or coffee for the grown up (just in case you get a minute to sit down).
The park is fairly pushchair friendly, but we found it easier to leave ours in the car and opted to carry our youngest every now and then. The footpaths are wheelchair friendly, albeit there is limited play options for those with limited mobility on arriving at each play space. There are lots of sensory spaces along the enchanted forest walk and within the Play Hive.
