Join us at Pontefract Castle on Thursday 2 and Friday 3 June 2022 to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. There will be a wide range of activities and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.
- The Thursday event will mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with an official Jubilee Beacon lighting ceremony in the evening, followed by a short flame and firework display. The ceremony will include a choir performance of the official commonwealth song, a piece by a bugle and cornet player, and will finish with the Mayor of Wakefield lighting the official beacon.
- Music has been programmed by Simon Walker and will consist of various acts including vintage duo’s, acoustic guitars, and upbeat Jubilee-themed sets. There will also be live music from 1940s all-female trio The Honeybirds.
- Throughout the day there will be live screenings of a film by the Yorkshire Film Archive entitled ‘Seen to be believed’, which takes an affectionate look at how the people of Yorkshire and the Northeast celebrated coronations, jubilees, and royal visits through the decades.
- There will be free family workshops taking place on both days – these will consist of arts and crafts and creative bubble workshops.
- Live walkabout entertainment will be provided by the Royal Guard stilt walkers, The Great British Tea Party, and union jack-themed flag dancers.
