A great family day out!
Climb aboard Yorkshire’s Great Little Steam Trains for a scenic journey from Clayton West to Shelley, through the beautiful South Pennine Foothills.
Built on the historic Clayton West branch line and opened to the public in October 1991, the Kirklees Light Railway has grown and developed into a popular destination for both young and old.
Shelley station, situated high on the valley side offers splendid views across to the Grade II listed Emley Transmitting Tower. Passengers can enjoy our cosy tea room which serves light refreshments whenever the train are running and are welcome to use our playground, picnic areas and bouncy castles (weather permitting)
Our main station at Clayton West boasts delicious food from the Buffer Stop Cafe, an extensive gift and model shop, an adventure playground, a miniature railway, picnic areas and a large free car park!
Trains run every weekend from mid-February to the end of December and daily during school holidays – see here for timetable. They are open every day between Saturday 13th April & Sunday 28th April 2019
There is a full calendar of special events happening throughout the year, including their Easter Eggspress, with something for everyone!
