Advertorial for WYTS
Having taught Performing Arts in schools and colleges for over 15 years, I noticed a huge shift to explore Performing Arts in a practical way to a largely theoretical course. For me, this new structure restricted our talented acting students, who had been more engaged in previous lessons by taking part in practical exploratory tasks, which enabled them to identify with a character and immerse themselves in a specific style of performance. This was not only demoralising for the kids but had a huge impact on how I viewed our own three children’s education, and undoubtedly led me to complete my final term as a teacher. Admittedly, there were a few other defining moments during my final months in education both personally and in the classroom that further encouraged me to take a huge leap of faith and open my own theatre school.
I knew instantly that I would regain my energy and a passion for a subject, that I studied to University level, and that is such a pleasure to teach. After a few months of dedicating myself to my family, and treasuring some special moments, I began to feel that there was perhaps a way I could balance being a busy mum and find the excitement in a subject I loved. I endeavoured to include our kids in the process and luckily, they have come to love and respect the Performing arts industry whether that be assisting me onstage or offstage. I started our business in September, and I am so proud of our small business that is dedicated to supporting and nurturing our young performers along their acting journey.
My aim was to create a friendly theatre school, with small class sizes, dedicated to each individual that attends our school. I want to inspire young people to take risks, work as a team, and most importantly find an inner self-belief that can only be discovered through participation in the arts.
Attending WYTS theatre school students can learn to enjoy the process of devising and directing their own pieces with no constraints, as well as performing a wide range of theatrical styles and genres. The evidence of their hard work will be shown through practical work, and yearly performances. There are regular visiting artists that have an enormous passion for their subjects, and they all have had several years working in the Performing Arts industry as professionals.
We are looking for enthusiastic performers aged seven upwards who have already discovered a love for performing, or those who are yet discover an underlying talent. Our school has a small non-intimidating atmosphere, and we have some fantastic kids who attend our sessions. Our weekday hourly sessions dedicated to acting skills, makes us unique and individual. We pride ourselves on our family atmosphere that we have worked hard to create.
