Things to do with the kids in and around Wakefield from 12th April, step 2 of the roadmap
Step 2 of the Covid-19 re-opening roadmap is from 12th April 2021 and we can’t wait as there’s loads of things to do as a family in and around Wakefield! Just going on a day trip makes me do a happy dance! But as we’ve found out lots of places require pre-booking so now is the time to start planning!!
For more information on the Government’s re-opening roadmap – click here. Please note many of these venues and attractions require pre-booking. Due to restrictions parts of the attractions may still be closed, for example indoor areas which will remain closed until at least 17th May, step 3.
Classes, Clubs & Playgroups
We have so many amazing class providers in Wakefield and they are all eager to re-open and welcome you back to face-to-face classes! As well as providing brilliant bonding & learning opportunities with your children, they are a great way to meet other parents!!

Pubs with a good playground
Two households or 6 people are allowed to meet up from 12th April in an outdoor setting so a pub with a good garden and playground is a brilliant idea!
Some places to try out:
The Navigation Inn at Calder Grove
The Malt Shovel at Carr Gate
The Station Pub in Crigglestone
The White Horse at Sharlston
The British Oat at Calder Grove
Holmfield Arms, Thornes Park
The Stanley Ferry
Swimming Pools & Private Hire Pools
Whether you’re looking for a pool with a baby area or a one with slides and a splash zone, we have them all listed for you that are close by! If you’d prefer for it to be a bit quieter and have your own space we have a list of private pools available for hire too!
If you think about the attractions and museums that are mainly outdoors then those are the opens that are re-opening. I’ve updated as many of the attractions as possible with re-opening information so take a look here
If you have a child who loves trains and railways I’ve added a new section to the website that is dedicated to a train day out. A lot of these places we have visited with our little boy and make a fantastic day out – for more info click here
Whether you love riding on a rollercoaster, going on log flumes or digging for treasure we have quite a few theme parks in Yorkshire!
Has your little one had a growth spurt or you really think they need new shoes, then head into The Ridings Centre or Trinity Walk in Wakefield City Centre! Also Eco Baby have recently announced that they have a bigger shop and will be moving, still within The Riding Centre though!
