If I want anything for my children it’s that they grow up to be kind. The Selfish Giant is a heartwarming tale, told in such a way that even the youngest audience can take home the message that you never know where a little bit of kindness will take you.
This adaptation is lots of fun, easy for children to understand but with plenty of undertones that the adults don’t get bored. Awesome singing from the cast of two, a fab way to introduce small children to the joys of the theatre without being too intimidated.
I really don’t want to spoil the plot if you don’t know it, so I’ll keep quiet on that! An absolute highlight particularly if your child enjoys dressing up or fancies themselves as an actor/actress was being asked down to the stage after the performance to try on lots of outfits. Mini Mumbler was in her element, I could barely get her to leave!
We’ve been to the Civic a couple of times now, the venue is always clean and fresh looking. The auditorium, toilets and baby change are up (a lot of) stairs but there is a lift.
There’s a well-stocked bar for the adults and children alike and you won’t feel ripped off when you’ve bought the family a round of drinks and snacks. (My friend told me about paying £20 for a G&T in a theatre bar – I would’ve died!)

For the purposes of this review, we received complimentary tickets to the show. We would never recommend a product, service or experience unless we honestly had a great time (there are some that don’t get published for that reason!)
