The 2018 Tour de Yorkshire will see the race coming through our area again. Commencing in Barnsley outside the Iconic Townhall stage 2 of the race passes through Penistone and Conisbrough, before it reaches South Elmsall, Ackworth, Pontefract and Castleford on Friday 4th May. The race continues into Leeds with a Climb to the Finish in at Cote de Cow and Calf in Ilkley. The women’s race follows a similar route through our region missing out Pensitone.
As in past years there are bound to be lots of surprises and excitement along the way. The 2016 Tour de Yorkshire saw Sir Bradley Wiggins unexpectedly pull out of the race on Greenhow Hill coming out of Pateley Bridge, while the 2014 Tour De France: Grand Depart race saw Mark Cavendish crash just before reaching the finish line in Harrogate. One thing is certain though…Yorkshire will put on a good celebration!
We already know that local communities along the route are making plans for the race. In the upcoming weeks, Mumbler will be keeping you up to date with what is going on, the best places to eat, drink and visit along the route. We will also be listing places to stay for anyone visiting our area for the event. If you want to list your business or promote your event please contact us at wakefield@mumbler.co.uk
