Advertorial blog for Happy & Healthy Project
Experts anticipate we will see higher cases of winter illnesses in children who have yet to develop their immunity fully, particularly Respiratory Syncytal Virus (RSV), which causes cold-like symptoms and can develop into Bronchiolitis. Bronchiolitis is an infection that causes the tiniest airways in a child’s lungs to swell, making it difficult to breathe. While only a very small percentage of children develop severe Bronchiolitis symptoms, understanding how to look after little ones and where to get support will be vital this winter.
Local charities St George’s Lupset and Home-Start Wakefield are proud to have secured funding from the Department of Health & Social Care and Public Health England to support families and childcare professionals in Wakefield with this issue.
In addition to offering training sessions for childcare professionals (bookable via email here), the Happy & Healthy team also offer direct support to parents and carers through family-friendly activities and helpful resources. For example, Weigh & Play sessions at West Wakefield Methodist Church, 9.30-10.30am on Wednesdays.
Happy & Healthy also provide information and resources on social media to increase awareness of the illness, demonstrate warning signs to watch for, and provide supporting information which can empower parents and carers to make potentially life-saving decisions for them with confidence. This includes suggestions for caring for children at home and where to get appropriate support when needed.
