It’s been a long time since children were in school shoes and a new pair for the start of the academic year is often a necessity. You may think this post is a bit early, but I’ve heard that some shoe shops are taking booking appointments for August already!
As with most purchases there’s a huge prices range from supermarket to high end brands but luckily there’s some great places locally to buy kids school shoes!
Clarks Trinity Walk
Probably the most well known place to get children’s shoes. With a full measuring service, protective fitting screen installed and the ability to book your children’s fitting appointment online via their website.
CLARKS FREE SHOE OFFER
- Clarks has launched a school shoe freebie for kids heading back to school with just one condition- you exchange an older pair to get the deal.
- The deal is that if you go in store and get a special fitting for your child, you won’t have to buy a new pair until 28th February 2021. If they outgrow them you can exchange them for free.
- Included in the deal are the stores hoes, boots, plimsolls and sports shoes
- Shoppers will need to bring their receipt and have one of the Clarks staff confirm that the shoes no longer fit the child.
- You have to buy the pair from a Clarks shop between 13th July and 14th September 2020 and the shoes must have been fitted by a trained Clarks fitter in store.

Wynsor’s World of Shoes
It’s hard to beat Wynsor’s for their huge stock and low prices. Their range of kids school shoes starts from around £7 for more basic ballet shoes for girls to around £40 for bigger brand names.
They also stock boys black trainers and synthetic black shoes start at £12.
They also have some brand names including ‘Kickers’ which caused a playground frenzy back in the 90s as the ‘cool kids’ shoes of choice – albeit with a much heftier price tag for that coveted red label.
Stanley Road, Wakefield, WF1 4LZ
Shoe-ly Scrumptious lives up to its name with a feast of girly delights and all the popular children’s brand Lelli Kelly, Geox and Start-rite.
With great personal customer service, a loyalty discount scheme and convenient location in Mirfield High Street, it’s shopping local at its best.
They also have a toy box for younger children and you can tell them your budget before they get shoes out.

Clarks Outlet Store
A more affordable option than the High Street shops – Clarks outlet stocks older and discontinued styles.
You still get a full measuring service but shoes are also on the racks to try on.
They also invariably have a sale section.
The downside of the outlet is the range can be limited for each size.
Junction 32 Shopping Outlet, Carr Wood Road, Glasshoughton, Castleford, WF10 4SB
This independent family run retailer gets great reviews for its customer service and goes the extra mile to engage with seasonal promotions for young customers and a cute my first shoes corner.
They have a back to school range of premium brands such as Geox, Lelli Kelly. We go here for the majority of Mini Mumblers shoes and I highly recommend it!
