On Monday morning, Mini Mumbler was wondering why I had received so many parcels … I had been on a maternity clothing splurge to fit my ever expanding bump, but there was one special parcel for him as I spotted the fragile tape!
Opening it very carefully, and saving all the packaging as I knew we were posting it back to be glazed and fired in the kiln, Mini Mumbler was excited to find a rainbow money box! He loves rainbows and I also thought it would be a great reminder of our lockdown period together at home (and could be used to save some pennies for all the fun day trips we will be able to do once places start reopening!!). The package contained the rainbow, paints, paint brush, instructions and colour mixing chart (really helpful for Mummy as I can never remember my colour mixing and usually have to revert to google!!)
He was so excited to start painting straight away!! The table was covered with newspaper and he popped on his apron! I wondered if he would get bored as his painting sessions at home are usually done in a flash but he didn’t! There were only 4 rainbow stripes to be coloured but Mini Mumbler wanted to do them all, so we improvised and used the whole thing … it looked absolutely fine too. Apart from me helping him to mix the colours and a tiny bit of prompting, he painted the money box all by himself! He really did enjoy it and was so proud of his efforts when he had finished!! We still had quite a bit of paint left at the end too.
We left the painted rainbow to dry overnight and the next day popped it back into its box with the saved packaging and the address label supplied by Jasmine Pottery Studios. We paid £3 to return the parcel and this is the only additional cost you will pay.
The money box returned in the post about a week later, all lovely and glazed and it’s now proudly displayed in Mini Mumbler’s bedroom! This really was a lovely activity to do together and something special to remember the rainbows of lockdown!
