Wakefield Council is supporting a new partnership aimed at helping families who may be having relationship difficulties.
Most people are now spending longer periods of time with their loved ones than ever before and this is bound to bring about some added challenges.
Launched on 11th May 2020, the Council will be supporting ‘Relationship Matters‘ – a new website offering families information, tips and help on how to overcome relationship difficulties.
Whether couples are together or separated, disagreements are completely normal but evidence shows that regular conflict has a big impact on children.
Cllr Margaret Isherwood, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “All relationships have tricky moments but it is how they are resolved that matters, especially at the moment, to help us all get through lockdown.
“The way adults communicate with each other, whether together or separated, has an impact on their children and we want families to be able to recognise when their relationship may be having difficulties and give them the tools to resolve and deal with any conflict.
“If you recognise any of the signs below then take a look at the website for information, help and advice.”

Sometimes it can be difficult to separate parental conflict and domestic abuse. The ‘Relationship Matters’ focus is to help where relationships are ‘mostly respectful, equal, cooperative but experiencing difficulties’. If anyone has concerns around controlling or coercive behaviour, violence or fear, please seek advice from the local domestic violence services, such as Wakefield District Domestic Abuse Service (WDDAS) who can be contacted on 0808 915 1561 or at domesticabuse@wakefield.gov.uk
Domestic abuse can also be reported using this simple form https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/report-it/report-domestic-abuse
