The Story Frog is a unique class for preschoolers based on core literacy skills and phonics. These key skills for future learning are approached in a fun and innovative way that explores all of the senses and aims to embed a love of books.
The Story Frog Wakefield is headed up by Penelope, a local mum of two.
With Mini Mumbler only doing half days at a nursery I was conscious that her mornings were becoming a bit of a lazy time for us all, I wanted us to have something that we could do together in the mornings and have fun at the same time. With Tiny Mumbler due I thought it was important to spend some quality time together before she would be sharing us.
I looked into lots of classes for pre-schoolers and decided that we’d give The Story Frog a go, as a new class I hadn’t heard of it before but I was pleased that she (mainly I!) would be learning something. I have to confess that although I’m a teacher we don’t do much phonics with 11-18yrs olds so I was a bit clueless! The Story Frog is a great way to build your own confidence in helping your child at home.
Mini Mumbler really enjoyed the sessions, Penelope managed to fit in a lot of very different activities all linked to a central theme and a sound. There’s no chance for the kids or the parents to get bored.
The class would also be good for a childminder or for children that aren’t in pre-school childcare to get a little boost before they start school.
Penelope has brought the Story Frog to Wakefield and South Leeds, click here for details of times and venues.
