A Grand Day Out descends on Wakefield this summer!
Summer has begun and as days warm up, it’s never easy keeping little ones busy. So if you’re looking for some free activities that blend enjoying the great outdoors, delicious food and some show stopping entertainment, look no further than a trip to the Wakefield district this August.
Throughout the month, Wakefield Council is hosting a series of free Grand Days Out in various locations across the district. Expect full days of family fun including giant inflatables, live music and workshops such as monster mask making and traditional sports day activities.
In Castleford, Wakefield, Ossett, Featherstone and South Elmsall, a giant sandpit and beach-themed activities will bring that seaside cheer while an incredible dancing digger performance will delight the whole family in Ossett and Featherstone. Brought to us by MotionHouse, EXO is a stunning outdoor spectacle featuring two incredible performers, a JCB digger and a driver.
Get up close to Colony, a unique tactile installation and performance involving large, interactive, audible spheres, which allow sound to be seen, heard and felt!
Every location will also enjoy live music by local and regional brass bands, as well as picnic areas and street food. Bring a blanket and settle in for a fun weekend of free entertainment – and don’t forget your camera as children and adults alike make lasting memories!
The festivities kick off in Wakefield city centre on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 August. Enjoy a giant sand pit where kids can play and get your cameras out as giant inflatable tentacles take over Wakefield Cathedral. Those looking for something a little different can head over to the Bullring where Colony!
